On April 15th, 2016, opening ceremony of the SMRC "Shikine-Island Marine Station" was held on Shikine-Island. Participants from organizations such as SMRC, Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences- University of Tsukuba, Niijima village office, Shikine-Island Fisheries cooperative, and Shikine-Island tourist office attended the ceremony. Following a greeting by the SMRC director Dr. Inaba and a congratulatory speech by vice president Mr. Oonuma of the Shikine-Island Fisheries cooperative, a social gathering was held. SMRC staff and the people of Shikine-Island deepened exchanges through lively conversations.
