ACTIVITIES

Marine biology is a basis for life sciences, and numerous significant biological phenomena have been discovered through research on marine organisms.  Moreover, it is a fundamental academic field for recent global challenges such as biodiversity conservation and environmental issues, and hence cooperation on marine biology between and within countries is essential.  JAMBIO, Japanese Association for Marine Biology, was established by collaboration between Shimoda Marine Research Center, University of Tsukuba, and Center for Marine Biology, University of Tokyo.  The objective of this organization is to further accelerate nationwide interdisciplinary research collaborations among various researcher communities. JAMBIO develops advanced, cross-disciplinary, next generation pioneering research areas, and acts as a center for international cooperation for these newly established research areas, by enhancing joint usage and research collaborations in the field of marine biology in Japan.
